The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis is a story of imaginative fiction that deals with our assumptions and questions about heaven and hell, like:
- Do they exist and if so why do they exist?
- What are they like?
- Who will be where?
- How do I get there?
In the book the spirits of the dead who reside in Hell are given a bit of a holiday. The reason: to visit the suburbs of heaven with the opportunity to stay if they wish. And so they arrive by British bus. The book is often funny, but deals with serious questions, giving us a window into who we are and for whom and for what we’re destined.
You will be required to buy the book, (if you don’t already have a copy) and read a few pages each week to prepare for our time together. There will be a study guide provided to help you in your preparation.
- You must also sign up, either on the sign up list in the FBC foyer; or through the FBC office
- The cost of the book is $12.50. FBC will order the book for you if you so indicate on the sign up list.
- Starting Oct 6th we will meet each Thursday at 7:30 and the course will run for 8 weeks at FBC on the corner of 4th and 14th Avenue.
